王維 欹湖 translation: Yi Lake, by Wang Wei (輞川集)

This is a very rough translation and annotation of the poem 欹湖 (Yī Hú), ‘Yi Lake’, by the Tang Dynasty Chinese poet 王維 (Wáng Wéi).

Green mountain slopes under blue cloudy sky

欹湖 Yī Hú [Yi] [lake] Yi Lake

吹簫凌極浦, Chuī xiāo líng jí pǔ, [blow] [flute] [approach] [extreme] [shore] One plays the flute, crossing to a distant shore;

日暮送夫君。 rìmù sòng fū jūn. [sun] [set] [see off] [man] [sir] the sun sets, one sees you off.

湖上一回首, Húshàng yī huíshǒu, [lake] [on] [one] [return] [head] On the lake, turning the head back once -

青山卷白雲。 qīngshān juǎn báiyún. [green] [mountain] [roll] [white] [cloud] a green mountain and rolling white clouds.
