This is a very rough translation and annotation of the poem 夜雨寄北 (Yè Yǔ Jì Běi), ‘Sent North in Night Rain’, by the Tang Dynasty Chinese poet 李商隱 (Lǐ Shāngyǐn).

Rain veiled mountains

夜雨寄北 Yè Yǔ Jì Běi [night] [rain] [send] [north] Sent North in Night Rain

君問歸期未有期, Jūn wèn guīqī wèi yǒuqī, [sir] [ask] [return] [time] [not yet] [have] [time] You ask the time of my return, but there is not a time;

巴山夜雨漲秋池。 Bāshān yè yǔ zhǎng qiū chí. [Ba] [mountain] [night] [rain] [rise] [autumn] [pool] on Mt. Ba, the night rain swells autumnal pools.

何當共剪西窗燭, Hé dāng gòng jiǎn xī chuāng zhú, [what] [at] [together] [cut] [west] [window] [candle] When can we together cut the candle by the west window,

卻話巴山夜雨時。 què huà Bāshān yè yǔ shí. [yet] [speak] [Ba] [mountain] [night] [rain] [time] and speak of the time of night rain on Mt. Ba?
