C’s club Shanghai
685 Dingxi Lu
定西路685号
Head south from the intersection of Dingxi Lu and Wuyi Lu.
C’s is on the right, next to Sus2 bar.
If you’re in Changning District Shanghai (Zhongshan Park area), it’s well worth visiting C’s club. The place is a complete dive. It’s underground, you have to walk through this weird corridor off the street to get in, and every inch of the walls is covered with graffiti.
So you walk through the corridor that has a Buddha statue in a donation box, and you come to this dodgy looking doorway down into the basement. The graffiti starts here:
And it carries on down the stairs:
And then suddenly you’re in this basement bar that’s absolutely rammed with young, drunk people. The place is a bit of a labyrinth, with various rooms connected to a long central corridor. I got lost the first time I came here.
Drinks are cheap by any standard, but particularly for Shanghai. Beers and shots from 15元, spirits and mixers around 35元, water 10元.
Most of the rooms have little gaps in the walls so you can see what’s going on next door:
And if next door is the dance floor, it often involves this guy:
He seems to be there every week, and dances like a complete maniac. If the dance floor is busy he’s a pain in the arse as he careers around banging into people. Nut case.
Anyway, C’s is usually a pretty fun night, especially if you’re very drunk. The place is always full of smoke so your clothes and hair will stink, but it’s cheap and good for a laugh. Have some C’s wall graffiti to finish:
Credit to Tracey Slack for the pun in the title! Thanks also to John Pasden for telling me about C’s.

Looks like an awesome club!
Yeah I used to live on Yan’an Xi Lu and Dingxi lu, I didn’t know about this place (kinda hidden) until someone showed it to me. It’s grungy, unpretensious and a good time.
Don’t forget who introduced you to C’s! :P
Very true. Cheers boss!
